Who we are
Swing Journal is a personal app made by Topher Stubbs. It helps dancers keep track of swing moves, line dances, and songs, and optionally share moves with one dance partner. This policy explains what the app stores and why.
What we collect
When you create an account we store your email address and a password, handled by Supabase Auth. The password is stored hashed, never in plain text. During onboarding you give a display name, a dance preference, and an experience level. As you use the app we store the moves, line dances, songs, notes, and practice counts you enter. We also record the date you accepted this policy.
Videos and sharing
Videos you record for your own moves and line dances stay on your phone only. They are never uploaded, so they are not backed up: if you delete the app or switch phones, those videos are gone while the rest of your data is restored from your account. When you share a move with your partner, its video is compressed and uploaded to our storage so it can reach them. The first time your partner opens that move, their phone downloads the video and deletes the copy in our storage. While a video is in our storage, anyone with the exact link can view it. The links are not listed anywhere public, but treat a shared video as not private. When you link with a partner, your partner can see your email address, your display name, and the moves you choose to share.
Spotify search
Searching for songs sends your search text from your phone directly to Spotify's Web API. Spotify's own privacy policy applies to that request. We store only the songs you choose to save, including Spotify's track link and album art address.
On-device storage
The app keeps a copy of your data on your phone so it works offline, and keeps your videos in the app's private storage on the phone. Both are kept separately for each account on the device and are cleared when you delete your account.
We send account emails only: confirmation links, password reset links, and similar messages. They are delivered through Resend. We never send marketing email.
Who processes your data
Supabase (database, sign-in, and video storage), Spotify (song search), Resend (email delivery), and Apple and Google (app distribution). We use no analytics or advertising services.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data, show ads, track you across other apps, or include analytics software.
Deleting your account
Open Profile, then Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, profile, moves, line dances, songs, notes, the videos on this phone, any shared videos your partner has not opened yet, and your partner link including the shared journal. Videos your partner already downloaded stay on their phone. Deletion happens immediately and cannot be undone.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the app shows the updated version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
